Do the the global economy affect what we buy? The trends in home interior and art suggest at least that. There are two main trends: 1) People will not move but instead concentrates on decorating their existing homes. 2) We are looking for cozy rather than elegance and status symbols.
Over the past two years the percentage of light-renovations in the form of do-it-yourself projects has increased significantly in Sweden. Many of these have however been relatively cautious and sought maximum impact for little money. This resulted in a strong trend in which antiques mixed with modern and expensive to cheap, which meant great success for several companies in homeinterior.
One of these companies were Easyart. "Many of our customers have wanted to supplement the existing images with new ones of the same artist, others have searched for a new board to put in an antique frame," says St'ephanie Olsson, Head of Easyart. "We expect this trend to continue, where vintage and new designer labels mixed in better health than ever before with second-hand and high street brands. Mature oil paintings are welcome to share space with framed posters and modern lithographs on the walls in the same spirit as fashionista complements its Topshop dress with Louboutins. "
Although the trend toward cozy factor can be interpreted as a reaction to the global economy, a trend that is gaining strength in 2011. A different twist on this trend is themed rooms. "We have seen a strong demand for framed paintings of specific themes, such as food motifs for kitchen, Africa respectively. Oriental rooms and rooms with paint or hunting themes. There is a tendency to create cozy spatial units where they can retreat. It can be about a hobby or passion and to use art to create those which are simple and effective and creates a cozy place that reminds one of something you love, "says St'ephanie Olsson
The modern living room should be a friendly and flexible place for everything and everyone. We imagine the room as a changing scene of daily life, a bass, but standard practice for all activities. Here you will also blackboard walls in which one of the largest art trends. "Surrounding this trend are basically no rules. The trick is to dare to combine freely among different motifs and styles but also in terms of frame materials and colors. It can be surprisingly beautiful and decorative but above all it is a personal and fun element in home decor." says Stephanie Olsen.
In summary, the personality, small changes with big impact, flexibility, humor and cozy are key words in the 2011 interior design and a good guide when you're buying art.
