Claire-anne O'Brien is a recent graduate from the Royal College of Art in London where she studied for an MA in knitted textiles. Combining a passion for textiles with her interest in product and furniture design, O'Brien investigates fabric and form through knit. She has previously worked in varying areas of the industry, including time spent developing knitted handicrafts in the Himalayas. Now she is setting up her own studio in London and working on a new collection of knitted interior products.
These stools are sculptural knits that explore the boundaries of form and function and celebrate, in a humorous play on scale, the very structures of knitting itself. Simple and charming stools host oversized fabrics, playing on scale and the subtle relationship between hard and soft materials. Chunky yarns in a mix of hand and machine knit are constructed into bold forms with dramatic use of colour and intriguing
detail.
