At the riverfront of Bordeaux a 12 000 square meter large cultural center will be built, Maison de l'Economie Cr'eative et de la Culture en Aquitaine, or M'ECA. A team of architects will collaborate to design building, which will house three regional visual and performing arts agencies: FRAC, ECLA and OARA.
The big architect team consists of BIG+FREAKS freearchitects, dUCKS sc'eno, Khephren Ing'enierie, VPEAS, ALTO Ing'enierie, Vincent Hedont, PBNL, Mryk & Moriceau and Ph.A.
BIG has proposed a center around a public open space which opens up towards the city of Bordeaux and the Garonne River.
- When a region or a city invests millions in a major new cultural institution - it often ends up benefiting only the informed few that already have an interest in the arts. Not only does the M'ECA spill its activities into the public realm and the urban room, but the public is also invited to walk around, through, above and below the new cultural gateway, says Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner of BIG, in a press release.
